Research Centre for the Law of European Integration (Unitelma Sapienza)
The Research Centre for the Law of European Integration (ReCLEI) - established in 2023 as Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at the University of Rome "Unitelma Sapienza" - is a multidisciplinary and transnational laboratory for studies and research on the European integration process, having at its core the management and further development of the electronic and fully open-access journal European Papers - A Journal on Law and Integration.
The Centre builds upon the experience of the Research Centre for European Law of the University of Rome "Unitelma Sapienza", as well as upon a well-established network of collaboration with scholars working in leading universities in the field of European Studies, such as the Universities of Amsterdam (VU), Groningen, Konstanz, Paris (Sorbonne), Rome (Sapienza) and Salamanca. Together with these universities, Unitelma Sapienza was previously part of the European Papers Jean Monnet Network (EP-JMN), financed under the Jean Monnet Networks Action of the 2014-2020 Erasmus+ programme (Project reference: 610707-EPP-1- 2019-1-ES-EPPJMO-NETWORK).
The international and European dimension
The ReCLEI has a strong international and European dimension, characterized by:
- a research team including scholars from leading European universities;
- a European and international vocation reflected in both its research activities and its objectives;
- open access to its scientific results, published in European Papers - A Journal on Law and Integration - a multilingual online Journal promoted by the ReCLEI;
- an organic cooperation with other national and international research institutions, aimed at the development of joint research projects;
- the organization of international workshops and conferences.
Multidisciplinary nature
The ReCLEI is primarily focused on European and international law. Nevertheless, the Centre encourages the participation and exchange of visiting scholars and/or researchers from foreign institutions and universities. In addition, the ReCLEI promotes multidisciplinary studies and research in the field of European integration, building a comprehensive framework for analysis that is capable of connecting and integrating European and international perspectives on the matter.
Our mission
The ReCLEI is an ideal forum for academic discussions and debates, as well as for the development of research activities on the European integration process. Among others, the ReCLEI aims at:
- advancing the research on the European integration process from a multidisciplinary perspective, which combines legal, socio-legal and political approaches to the study of the European Union;
- fostering dialogue between the academic world and society;
- generating knowledge and insights that can support EU policy-making;
- bringing the EU closer to the public through active outreach and educational work.
